FA Cup Round-Up: Hereford Earn Replay, as Crewe comeback from 3 down.
The FA Cup Second Round kicked off on the Fylde coast with Fylde hosting former winners Wigan. A Danny Rowe penalty canceled out the opening goal for Wigan scored by Will Grigg to earn AFC Fylde a replay at the DW Stadium.
The story of the day on Saturday was Southern League Premier side, Hereford, earning a replay against Fleetwood. Fleetwood fell behind to the away side thanks to a strike from midfielder Calvin Dinsley before a Devante Cole goal leveled up the game 6 minutes later. Neither Hereford or Fleetwood could get the second meaning a replay at Edgar Street in just over a weeks time.
It was heartbreak for Oxford City from the National League South. Despite Notts county taking the lead twice, it looked like the hoops had earned a replay but it wasn’t to be for Oxford with a goal from Jorge Grant with seconds to go giving Notts county the win.
At halftime, Maidstone was one nil to the good against MK Dons and after putting League Two side Cheltenham to the sword in the last round things were looking good. But it wasn’t to be for Maidstone with four goals scored in the second half MK eased to victory.
Elsewhere on Saturday, there were winners for Bradford, Shrewsbury, and Stevenage.
Replays between Gillingham & Carlisle, Forest Green & Exeter, and Port Vale & Yeovil Town.
Woking will have another replay against a League One side after drawing 1-1 with Peterborough. Woking deserved a replay with several attempts at the end for a winner including hitting the bar.
Leatherhead led at Wycombe Wanderers thanks to a Jack Midson penalty but class shone through at Adams Park with the hosts winning 3-1.
There was a crazy game at Ewood Park where former Premier League winners Blackburn Rovers raced into a 3-0 lead against Crewe after just 20 minutes. But with Blackburn down to 9 men the railwaymen battled and got back to 3-3 with half an hour left none of the sides could find the net again meaning, these two will meet at Gresty Road in the replay.
There were wins for Luton, Mansfield, and Coventry against non-league opposition.
Elsewhere wins for AFC Wimbledon, Newport and Doncaster sealed their place in the third round.
