The 5 best signings Manchester United have made since appointing Jose Mourinho

It has been a rather successful spell as manager of Manchester United so far for Jose Mourinho two trophies in the cabinet and are currently on the hunt for the bigger prizes in the Champions League and the Premier League this has largely been down to the brilliant signings made by Manchester United this season we’ve looked at the best 5 signings Manchester United have made since appointing Mourinho.

5: Romelu Lukaku (Everton) £75 Million

When Manchester United snatched Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in the summer there was a lot of joy from the United faithful. Lukaku despite being only 24 is the record Belgian goalscorer of all time and has already got over 70 Premier League goals and is closing in on joining the 100-goal club. Lukaku scored on his debut for Manchester United in their 2-1 defeat to Champions League Holders Real Madrid in the super cup and hit the ground running in the premier league as well scoring 10 goals in 9 first team appearances breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 9 in his first 9. As well as 8 in 12 in the Premier League Lukaku has also impressed in his first campaign in the Champions League with 3 goals bagged in his last 5 games.

4: Eric Bailly (Villarreal) £30 Million

Eric Bailly was the first signing made by Mourinho from Spanish side Villareal. Bailly made 38 appearances in his first season more than fellow centre-backs Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. With Bailly in the side, the Manchester United defense has been brilliant. 18 Premier League clean sheets and just 18 conceded goals. Despite being 23 years of age the way Bailly plays he looks like a seasons pro at the heart of the United side.

3: Zlatan Ibrahimović (PSG) Free Transfer.

Ibra came to England hoping to earn a fifth different league title in five different countries. After being released from PSG, Zlatan was quickly swooped up by Manchester United and was a key part of Jose Mourinho’s double cup winning season. Ibrahimović was the highest scoring Manchester United player last season scoring 17 times for the Red Devils including 14 times in his first 20 Premier League games, a record shared with both Alan Shearer and Man City rival Sergio Aguero. The Swede also scored 4 goals in his 5 league cup games with two coming in the final including the winning header. Ibrahimović scored another 5 goals in the Europa league on united’s way to winning the trophy. It is clear that united’s first season would have not been anywhere near as successful without Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

2: Nemanja Matic (Chelsea) £40 Million

Many eyebrows were raised when Matic followed Jose Mourinho moving from Chelsea to Manchester United. The defensive midfielder has already won the Premier League twice one time under Mourinho and is hoping for a third title win this season as well. Matic makes united much more solid in the middle of the pitch allowing Paul Pogba to influence things further up the field.  His influence this season has been clear with United keeping eight clean sheets so far this season and have only conceded once this season in the league at Old Trafford as well as making 110 recoveries this season in his 12 league games.

1: Paul Pogba (Juventus) £89 Million

After leaving Manchester United for first-team football Pogba had 4 successful seasons in Italy with Juventus.  4 Serie A titles, 2 Coppa Italia trophies and also finished runners-up in the Champions League in 2015. Pogba also made the Serie A team of the year 3 years running catching the eye of many sides such as, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona However it was his former club Manchester United that won Pogba’s signature for a world record fee at the time of £89 million. Pogba’s first season was up and down but always showed his quality scoring 5 goals in his premier league campaign but played a key part in their Europa League and League cup wins. Pogba this season has been in brilliant form despite missing a large part of the season with an Injury. 3 goals in 5 games for Pogba as well being a key figure in the way United play starting many of the United attacks and forming a brilliant partnership with his friend Romelu Lukaku. When he is in the United side they are a completely different side and during his injury his miss was huge and United fans are very happy to have him back. At just 24 years of age, Pogba could go on to be a legend at Old Trafford.
